I'm an associate professor in the computer science department of Michigan State University. I am also the director of Michigan State's High Performance Computing Center whose web page is www.hpcc.msu.edu

I'm co-director of the Genetic Algorithms Research and Applications Group or GARAGe . My main interests are genetic algorithms and genetic programming, including theoretical issues (parallel GA/GP) and application issues (design, layout, scheduling, etc.). I also have active research in data mining, mostly focused on intelligent search approaches based on pattern-recognition techniques and GA/GP search.

Previously I have done work in knowledge-based systems, namely BESS, a system for advising biodegradability of arbitrary chemical structures. I occasionally do some work in computer music..

My office is in 3147 Engineering Building, just down the hall from the main CSE office suite. The GARAGe is located in EB 2340, basically the NW corner.
