First Grade Instructional Program

The First Grade Instructional Program focuses on developing basic skills through practices and games against other teams in the program, and is offered each year to First Graders in the Mason School District. Registration is conducted in May and June of each year; practices and games are conducted in both the following Fall (September and October) and the following Spring (April and May).

The program is designed for children who are currently attending (or are eligible to attend) First Grade in the Mason School District. Participants must have turned six years old by December 1, 2007.

Registration for the First Grade Instructional Program covers the fall (September and October) and spring (April and May) sessions. It is also possible to register for the six-week Spring session only.

Registration Form (2008-2009)

MESSC will continue to accept registration requests, as long as space is available.

Each family must supply shin guards, appropriate footgear, a soccer ball, and a jersey for their child. The ESSC-approved jerseys (blue and white reversible mesh) are available from local sporting goods stores (such as the Sports Stop in downtown Mason).

The coach for each team will set up a practice schedule in August and again in March. The exact dates and times for practices will be based on field availability and scheduling constraints included on the registration forms by each family. Most teams practice for one hour twice each week (typically M/W or T/T evenings) for about seven weeks in August and September and for about six weeks in April and May.

In addition, each team will also play three "games" (instructional scrimmages) against other teams in the program during both the Fall and Spring sessions. The games will normally be scheduled on Saturday or Sunday afternoons.

A description of the special rules used for the instructional scrimmages is available:

Please note: participants in all MESSC programs must wear shin guards and appropriate footgear during all practices and games. Participants may wear sneakers, gym shoes, or turf shoes (no metal cleats and no center toe cleat).
