Description:

This course is a pilot offering of a one-credit course designed to teach basic concepts and skills involved in computer science research. It is intended for PhD students who have yet to advance to Qualified Status.

Course Objectives:

  • Become familiar with different research paradigms in computer science: Which paradigms are best suited for types of problems in your research area? 
  • Learn how to generate new research ideas.
  • Learn how to read and critically evaluate technical papers.
  • Develop communication and writing skills.
  • Undertake an in-depth research experience.
  • Learn standards of research ethics.
