I have joined the VIPL lab as an Associate Professor at the Institute of Computing Technology, Chinese Academy of Sciences. Welcome to visit my new homepage at [@GoogleSite]


I am currently working as a Research Associate with University Distinguished Prof. Anil K. Jain in the Pattern Recognition and Image Processing (PRIP) Lab of the Department of Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) at Michigan State University (MSU). I mainly focus on the research of unconstrained face recognition, heterogeneous face recognition (e.g., sketch to mugshot), multi-view face recognition with 3D face modeling, demographic (e.g., age, gender, and race) estimation, and soft biometric traits (e.g., tattoo) based identification.


From 2001 to 2005, I studied for the B.S. degree of Computer Science in the School of Computer Science and Technology at Shandong University, Jinan, China, and from 2005 to 2011, I studied for the Ph.D. degree of Computer Science at the Institute of Computing Technology, Chinese Academy of Sciences (ICT, CAS), Beijing, China, under the supervision of Prof. Wen Gao.


During my Ph.D. study, I worked as a Research Assistant in the Visual Information Processing and Learning group at ICT, CAS, and worked closely with Prof. Xilin Chen and Prof. Shiguang Shan, focusing on computer vision and image processing, such as face recognition, facial lighting attribute estimation and analysis, and illumination preprocessing (normalization).


Research Interests

·      Computer Vision, Pattern Recognition, and Image Processing

·      Biometrics on the topics of face recognition (e.g. face illumination preprocessing, 3D face modeling from 2D images, facial age estimation, and multi-view face recognition), heterogeneous face matching (e.g. composite sketch to mugshot matching), and soft biometrics (e.g. tattoo sketch to image matching)
