We are helping Tanzanian schools have on-demand internet connectivity
Much of what makes the Internet such a great tool is its constant connectivity- the ability to find the information you need at any time of day. For the schools that inhabit rural Tanzania, however, this is not the case.
Three schools: Baraka Primary, Manyara Secondary, and Rift Valley Secondary share a single satellite connection to the Internet, which is transmitted wirelessly to their respective schools. Since these schools are not on the electrical grid, the connection must be solar-powered. Because of this, this connection can be turned on only rarely, which deprives students of the full power and benefit of the Internet. So a smarter solution is needed.
Our goal is to create a system that will only activate the satellite connection when a request is made. This way, we can conserve battery charge, and thus allow the students of these schools to access the internet at any time of day.
