Frequently Asked Questions for CSE 231
Python
Saving?
When saving your Python program be careful to do two things:
- Save with a .py extension: IDLE will assist you more, e.g. colors.
- Save in the IDLE editor; don't save the Python shell session.

Grading
I have a question about the grading of my project. Who do I contact?
Contact your TA.
Remote Access
I cannot connect to \\samba.cse.msu.edu\yourname or \\samba.cse.msu.edu\cse231 off campus.
Most ISPs do not allow samba connections (some will allow it for a hefty fee).
How can I transfer files between my home PC and the CSE IN system.
If you are in a dorm, you can connect to \\samba.cse.msu.edu\yourname. If you are off campus,
download and install the free SSH (remember to also download the license.dat file to the same directory and ensure that it is named "license.dat", e.g. not license.dat.text).
Miscellaneous
Yikes!! I accidently deleted my file! What can I do?
In your home directory (a.k.a. folder) on the H drive there is a subdirectory named .snapshot (note
how the name starts with a period). Position
yourself in that directory. There you will find
subdirectories with hourly, daily, and weekly backups of your files.
