Pang-Ning Tan,
associate professor of computer science and engineering, has been awarded a research grant from NASA for a project entitled "Algorithms for Forest Cover Change Detection using MODIS data".
The goal of the project is to develop scalable data mining algorithms for detecting changes in the density of tropical forest cover worldwide from NASA MODIS time series data. This project is joint collaboration with Dr. Vipin Kumar and Dr Michael Steinbach from University of Minnesota.
