How do I connect to Samba
There is absolutely No Network in the lab
I cannot connect to my samba space
- Check to see if you have network connection by opening IE or some other internet program
- If you have previously connected to samba, email manager@cse.msu.edu for help
or come to room 3200 Engineering Building during help desk hours.
- If you have never logged into a Unix machine or connected to Arctic, then you need to
fullful that obligation of having a new account.
- If you cannot even log into a Unix machine email manager@cse.msu.edu for help
I cannot save to my samba space
- Make sure you are connected to samba. Double click My Computer and look for h: drive.
If not, then map a network drive
- Make sure you have room in your ‘samba’ space to save the file. If there isn’t enough room,
your file will not be saved to your samba space. On arctic, type "showquota"
- If you do have enough room and are connected to samba send e-mail to manager@cse.msu.edu
or come to room 3200 in the Engineering Building during help desk hours.
I cannot print
- Make sure you are connected to samba
- If you are conneccted to samba, ssh to Arctic and use lpq to check for errors with the printer.
- A temporary workaround is choose the option to print to file, then send that ps file to the printer
with lpr on arctic.
- If nothing else works, e-mail manager@cse.msu.edu for help

How do I connect to Samba
- Right Click My Computer
- Select Map Network Drive from the drop down menu
- Type in the Network Path \\samba\ (ie: \\samba\smitha)
- Click Connect
There is absolutely No Network in the lab
- If it looks like there is no network in the lab, then someone broke our security rule.
- No workstation should be disconnected from the network and No laptop should ever be connected to the room's switch.
- E-mail manager@cse.msu.edu to reset the security on the switch
