The Mouse does not work

The Mouse does not work

  • If the mouse doesn’t work, before you log onto the computer, unplug the mouse cord. Then plug the mouse cord back in.
  • If the mouse still doesn’t work send e-mail to the system managers at manager@cse.msu.edu.
  • If the mouse stops working while you are using the workstation send e-mail to manager@cse.msu.edu.
  • Do NOT RESTART or SHUTDOWN the workstation.

The Keyboard does not work

  • If the keyboard doesn’t work, so you can’t log in, unplug the keyboard cable. Then plug the keyboard cable back in.
  • If the keyboard still doesn’t work send e-mail to the system manager@cse.msu.edu.
  • If the keyboard stops working while you are using the workstation send e-mail to manager@cse.msu.edu.
  • Do NOT RESTART or SHUTDOWN the workstation.

The Workstation Locked up

  • If the workstation locks up, so you can’t do anything, including logging out, send e-mail to the system managers at manager@cse.msu.edu or come to room 3200 in the Engineering Building during help desk hours.

The Screen does not look correct

  • If there are problems with the monitor or video card in one of the labs send e-mail to the system managers at manager@cse.msu.edu or come to room 3200 in the Engineering Building during help desk hours.
  • Then plug the keyboard cable back in.

The Zip drive did not save all of my data

  • If a zip disk is not unmounted the computer will not store all of the data saved on the zip disk properly
  • The safest way to eject a zip disk is to properly restart the computer and eject the disk before the computer recognizes the zip disk.
  • The CSE managers make no guarantees that the software will ensure that the zip disk is unmounted and all of your data is saved

The workstation will not mount my Zip disk

  • Is the Zip disk formatted for a windows operating system?
  • Yes - Try the zip disk in a different workstation
    • If the second workstation mounts the zip disk, please send a message to manager@cse.msu.edu and tell us which workstation has a bad zip drive.
    • If the second workstation doesn’t mount the zip disk you either have a bad zip disk or an unformatted zip disk.
  • No – You will not be able to use that zip disk until it has been formatted for a windows operating system.
    • To get a zip disk formatted you will have to come to room 3200 in the Engineering Building during help desk hours.

The Floppy disk drive does not work

  • Is the floppy disk formatted for a windows operating system?
  • Yes - Try the floppy disk in a different workstation
    • If the second workstation recognizes the floppy disk, please send a message to manager@cse.msu.edu and tell us which workstation has a bad floppy drive.
    • If the second workstation doesn’t recognize the floppy disk you either have a bad floppy disk or an unformatted floppy disk.
  • No – You will not be able to use that floppy disk until it has been formatted for a windows operating system.
    • To Format the floppy, right click on the Floppy drive from My Computer and format.
    • Warning. Formatting the disk will erase everything on it
