This is a list of the major computing equipment available in the Department of Computer Science & Engineering. This list is not meant to be comprehensive, but rather an indication of the scope and breadth of the CSE physical facilities.

Instructional Facilities

The CSE department operates its own facilities for instruction in courses at the 200-level and above.

Login servers

  • Sun Sparc running Solaris
    • arctic (instructional use only - no long or intense jobs). Sun Fire V240 with 2 x 1 Ghz UltraSPARC IIi processors, and 4 GB of RAM.
    • pacific. Sun Enterprise 6000 (thirty 250 mhz processors) with 7 GB of RAM.
  • PC Architecture running Debian Linux
    • adriatic (instructional use only - no long or intense jobs). Sun Fire V20z with 2 x Opteron processors with 4 GB of RAM.
    • black. Sun Fire V40z with 4 x dual-core Opteron processors with 16 GB RAM

 

Unix Infrastructure Servers (closed to user login)
  • atlantic. Sparc Sun Fire V240 (dual 1 Ghz UltraSPARC processors). 4 GB memory. DNS, departmental web server

  • dbsrv2. Linux Intel Pentium Pro (200mhz). 64 MB memory. Linux database server.
  • sargasso. Linux Sun Fire V20z with 2 x Opteron processors with 4 GB of RAM. NIS master, DNS master, Samba.
  • rheic. Linux Sun Fire V20z with 2 x Opteron processors with 4 GB of RAM. Cups print server, NIS slave, Secure web, LDAP
  • lists. Linux Dell Optiplex GX280. Mailman mailing lists.
  • mx. Linux Sun Fire X2100 (dual-core Opteron with 2GB of RAM). Mail MX. Accepts email from internet.
  • sulu. Linux Sun Fire X2100 (dual-core Opteron with 2GB of RAM). Mail storage running IMAPS/SMTPS
  • capstone-srv. Linux Dell Optiplex GX280. Jumpstart setup for Capstone
  • coral. Network Appliance FAS270. 2 TB storage. Central storage for home directories and research.

Windows 2003 Infrastructure Servers

  • tsserv. Sun Fire X4100 (2 x dual-core Opteron with 8 GB of RAM). Terminal Server

Engineering Building CSE Network

  • Foundry FastIron SuperX. 132 copper GigE ports with Fiber uplink from EGR
  • Instructional labs have either Cisco Catalyst 1900 switch or HP Procurve copper GigE switch
