SMTP Authentication for outgoing email
Effective Spring Break week 2005, CSE email will need smtp authentication for outgoing email. The process is similar to MSU's mail.msu.edu. The only difference is CSE currently does not support the SSL option.
Usage:
- Your email client needs an option enabled for Outgoing SMTP needs username and password.
- Mail.msu team has a great list of support clients and information on setting it up.
- SMTP stands for Simple Mail Transfer Protocol. It is the outgoing path your mail program uses to send out email.
Benefits:
- CSE previously supported IMAP-before-SMTP. It worked well but was ultimately a hack.
- Now any CSE user can send email through the CSE SMTP server from anywhere.
- However, some ISPs do not allow SMTP traffic to anything other than their SMTP server. If you cannot connect to CSE, use your ISPs settings.
In conjunction, CSE is implementing Greylisting
