Recent Software Changes (2005)
- MANY changes this summer.
- Bob lab converted from Sun Desktop to Debian linux on PC. Machines are blazing fast.
- All public labs running Windows 2000 were upgraded to Windows XP. Software selection is same, just updated.
- Atlantic (Web server) was upgraded from a dual 300 Mhz Sparc to a Sun Fire V240, dual 1 Ghz Sparc with 4 Gigs RAM.
- Bering (License and application server) was upgraded from a Sun Ultra1 to a Sun Fire V240. Services were consolidated to conserve space.
- Web updates include Apache 1.3.33 and PHP 5.
- New print servers in both the CSE network and the EGR network. Should fix the misc timeouts.
- Adriatic (Public Linux Server) was upgraded from a quad 500Mhz Zeon to a Sun V20z Opteron. Nice!
- The network drive /soft/sparc (main software for ALL sparcs, servers, etc) had a major overhaul. The following is all the updated software
- BerkelyDB 4.3, Bash 3, Bind 9.3, SASL 2 (applies to openlap and sendmail), tcl 8.5, freetds 6.3, gdb 6.3, atk 1.9, glib 2.6.4
- python 2.4.1, samba 3.0.14, openldap 2.2.24, and gnome libs and apps.
- On the hardware side, an HP Procurve switch was added to server room. Gigabit connections between most servers.
- On the hardware side, a Cyclade Net KVM and Console server were added to ease administration
