The Dancing Computer!

Dancing Computer

Dancing Computer is a project to teach dance and computer literacy to elementary school children. Students dance computer programs, learning both dance terminology and concepts of coding such as sequencing and conditionals. Theatre is used to create a fun and engaging learning environment as children become a computer.

Background

Dancing Computer is an offshoot of FlashMob. The Dancing Computer concept was successfully tested at Winans Elementary school in April 2015 and Brownell STEM Academy YouthQuest program in Flint in May 2015. DART funding has been secured for 2015/16 to pay student designers, choreographers, artists and programmers to further develop the concept. A College of Arts and Letters research award has also been secured to pay for student research assistants on this project.
