Visioning for Computing and Information at Michigan State University
The Department of Computer Science and Engineering stands in a
position of both great privilege and great responsibility: Great
privilege because it lies at the epicenter of the most profoundly
transformative discipline of the last half-century and great
responsibility because harnessing the transformative nature of
computing to best effect requires visionary leadership.
For this reason, the Department spent much of the past year and a half
engaged in strategic visioning. What resulted is an exciting new
strategic vision for computing and information for both the Department
and the entire University. Among other things, our vision calls for
the unification of computing-centric research and instructional
activities to ensure that the University is able to anticipate and
foster global changes in the landscape of this dynamic field.
