A Decade of Memories

At the Fall '96 Board meeting, the CSE Board of Visitors suggested the idea of hosting a breakfast for graduates and families. A generous gift from Dow Chemical Corporation provided the initial support for the breakfast. Crowe Chizek subsequently assumed the supporting role and has sponsored fall and spring graduation breakfasts for a decade.

Kevin Ohl, Distinguished Alumnus

Throughout the years, CSE Alumnus Kevin Ohl has been deeply involved with the department. Melanie Foster, Vice Chairperson, MSU Board of Trustees, and Tom Izzo, Head Coach, Intercollegiate Athletics, attended the graduation breakfast this year to honor Kevin's role as a dedicated alumnus and active member of the MSU community.

"MSU has a tradition of being an institution where people from ordinary backgrounds achieve extraordinary things," said Trustee Foster. She congratulated the Spring 2007 graduates and cited Kevin Ohl as a wonderful example of MSU’s land-grand philosophy. Foster described Kevin as CSE's most active alumnus, citing frequent trips to campus from his hometown of Chicago in order to attend alumni advisory board meetings, department activities, and the bi-annual Graduation Breakfast. Kevin hosts a tailgate at every MSU home football game, inviting faculty, staff, and students to share fellowship before the game.

"We're from a school where it's better to give than receive," Head Coach Tom Izzo said. From basketball star Magic Johnson 'bringing the pass back into the game' to the university's land-grant history, this is part of what makes MSU so special. "Ten years speaks volumes about doing something," he said. He commended Kevin Ohl for his decade-long support of the CSE graduation breakfast and commitment to MSU.
