| Charles Severance (PhD '96) has been named as the Executive Director of the Sakai Foundation. The Foundation serves more than 80 Educational Sakai Partners and 12 Commercial Affiliates in coordinating development and evolution of an open source Collaboration and Learning Environment for higher education.
Severance is currently a Software Architect at the University of Michigan Media Union. He performs research in the use of parallel processors for High Performance Computing and in the use of the Internet to deliver educational content.
