Man in the Middle Warning

If a machine is replaced or reinstalled abruptly, then it is possible the ssh identity is not preserved. This leads to a man in the middle warning. This means you are connecting to a server but your key from last time does not match and it could be a server compromised.

Normally you would avoid putting your password into a situation like that. However, if we did the replacing of a CSE machine, then it is safe. We will post the details on the homepage. Only trust it if we say so.

What to do?

If you use linux or unix with command line ssh, it will give you are warning about authorized_keys with a colon followed by a line number. The line number on that file has the old ssh identity before the machine was replaced. Open the file with an editor and delete that line.

If you use windows, the gui program usually has a method to overwrite the key with the new one.
