Setting up a Samba Network printer
Brief background:
Printing in CSE requires printing through our print server. The allows for a controlled printing environment. This requires you to be authenticated to our Samba network.
Printing from your own personal or work computer:
- The simple way:
- Go to start -> run and type: \\samba.cse.msu.edu (authenticate if needed)
- A list of network printers is provided. Double click the desired printer.
- If this method fails, use the alternative method
- Alternative method:
- Authenticate to Samba by either mapping a network drive to \\samba.cse.msu.edu\
- or do a start->run: \\samba.cse.msu.edu
- Go to the control panel -> printers -> add a printer.
- Choose a network printer
- Connect to this printer and type in the name: \\samba.cse.msu.edu\
- If it asks for the printer model, supply your best guess. There are different models thoughout the CSE offices
If your username on your workstation is different from your CSE username, you might need to repeat step 1 on each boot, or you can tell windows to remember your username and password the first time.
Printing from the public labs:
The CSE public labs have all public printers by default. If you require a different printer, follow the simple method above.
